George Gray 先生ご逝去
　英国ハル大学名誉教授のGeorge Gray 先生が、2013年5月12日〔日〕（イギリス時間）に逝去されました。ここに、心よりご冥福をお祈りしますとともに、謹んでお知らせします。
　Gray 先生は、液晶学界の発展に多大なご尽力をされ、1997年の日本液晶学会設立時には、学会誌創刊号に祝辞を寄稿してくださいました（液晶, Vol. 1,No. 1, p. 6）。
　Gray先生は、液晶化学分野の第一人者で、液晶物質の体系化を行うとともに、実用的な液晶表示材料の分子設計法を確立されました。特に、化学的に安定で、室温で作動可能なシアノビフェニル系液晶材料の先駆的なご研究はよく知られています。1991年に大英勲章、1995年に京都賞を受 賞されています。
